Location and concept of the building

The ZMB is placed in the development area of Melaten of the RWTH Aachen, which distinguishes itself by a very good connection to the Cologne/Düsseldorf motorways. The building possesses an exponated location. The building for it's own is a demonstration object for modern constructing with steel. Because of an advanced fire-protection concept the carrying steel construction remains visible. The fassade infront of the seminar- and office rooms is a modern steel-glas construction, the roof and wall construction consists of coated grooved steel sheets. The central area for research and development is the laboratory- and workshop area with a 26 x 3 m sized tensioning plate out of steel and further modular construction- and examination devices for manufacturing and examination of large-sized components.
